Job Summary

The Business Development Manager (BDM) will report directly to the Vice President of Business Development and be directly responsible for the growth of Sundt’s water market sector. The BDM will be overseeing a specific region & will have the flexibility of working remote while traveling accordingly. Sundt’s focus within water and wastewater includes both municipal and industrial treatment plants nationwide. Our projects are predominantly integrated project delivery and range from $5M to $700M in value. The BDM is responsible for the growth of the water market sector, including:  lead identification and development; opportunity assessments and prioritization; the Go vs. No-Go process; leading pursuits; content development for proposals and presentations; developing strategic plans; accuracy of CRM data (Cosential); networking and relationship development; support of social media and website content; and integrating with other departments and markets to support overall growth.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ownership of the entire BD process including: new and existing client relationship development, lead identification and development, opportunity assessment and prioritization, go vs no-go process, and leading pursuits.
  2. Develops the annual tactical plan that identifies market conditions, economic data, new markets, emerging trends, a SWOT analysis, and opportunities to establish realistic sales goals and short and long-term strategic plans for growth.
  3. Responsible for entering and maintaining accurate data on leads, opportunities, and pursuits in the Cosential CRM system and other tools to support business development strategies for the company.
  4. Responsible for the development of pre-win strategies, all RFQ/RFP responses, and drafting text and creating graphical content for proposals, reports, presentations, etc.
  5. Coordinates and Leads the team (operations, management, estimating, scheduling, BIM, etc.) with strategy discussions, pre-win activities, and content development.
  6. Identifies Sundt’s key differentiators and identifies and presents value propositions through design or constructability improvements.
  7. Serves as a member of the Industrial Group’s Senior Management Team with shared responsibility for setting and meeting group strategic goals and personnel development.

 

Minimum Job Requirements

  1. 10+ years of industry experience in the water/wastewater sector working for either a General Contractor, Design Engineer, Process Equipment Vendor or Supplier, Operations company, or as the Owner/Client.
  2. 5+ years of experience leading similar competitive qualification-based pursuits or in the procurement of projects.
  3. BS in Construction Management, Engineering, Water Resources, or similar field or equivalent combination of training and applicable experience.
  4. Candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills focused on simplifying and presenting complex information in an insightful and meaningful way.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Power BI, Teams, etc.

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.)
  2. May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  3. May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  4. May use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors.
  5. Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  6. Occasionally will climb stairs, ladders, etc.
  7. Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  8. Will interact with people frequently during a shift/work day.
  9. Will lift, push or pull objects on an occasional basis.
  10. Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/work day.
